Yzaguirre To Be Honored at D.C. Event
Raul Yzaguirre, executive director of the Center for Community Development and Civil Rights, will be honored by the American Jewish Committee at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. on September 18th in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
To further advance the close collaborative relationship between Hispanics and Jews in the United States, the American Jewish Committee's Latino and Latin American Institute has established the Gesher Award. It will honor individuals on an annual basis who, through their leadership and commitment, have built bridges between both communities.
As the inaugural recipient, Raul Yzaguirre will be honored for his work as a community activist, as founder and head of one of the most influential and effective Hispanic organizations in the U.S., and as an advocate of causes that are crucial to all minorities in American society. With this award, AJC recognizes Yzaguirre's vision of the vast possibilities for communities to work together, while strengthening appreciation for diversity and inclusion, epitomizing the spirit of the Gesher Award.
The award will be presented at the 2008 Latino-Jewish reception in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.
