Art Ruiz
Art Ruiz, CPCU, CLU is a Director for State Farm Insurance Companies in the Washington, D.C. Federal Affairs Office. In his twenty-five years with State Farm, he has worked in various capacities including Fire Underwriting, Agency Recruitment, Human Resources, Administrative Services, Public Affairs, Government Affairs and Corporate Communications and External Relations before assuming his current position in 2005.
Building national coalitions, grassroots legislation and media outreach are his main focus. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, MOSAICA, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, National Hispanic Corporate Council, Hispanic Women’s Corporation, National Job Corps Association, Raza Development Fund and on the following advisory boards Hispanic Maryland AARP, Cuban American National Council, NCLR He received the America Association of Higher Education Award from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for Outstanding Support on Hispanic Issues in March 2000. He has served a number of other community organizations, including the Missouri Americans with Disabilities Commission, American Cancer Society and National Housing Service. He is also a fellow of the Mexican American Solidarity Foundation.
In addition to his work on coalition building, he is also a loaned executive from State Farm to the Center for Community Development and Civil Rights at Arizona State University 50% of his time.
Art graduated from California State University of Los Angeles with a degree in History. Prior to joining State Farm, he taught English in Spain. He has earned the professional insurance designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Charter Life Underwriter (CLU).
