"Preparing for College: Enrolling, Educating, and Advancing Latinos"

A national symposium to be held June 22 and 23, 2007.

The Center for Community Development and Civil Rights is convening a symposium of national, regional, and local experts ranging from community-based organizations, educators/counselors, foundations, policy makers, to researchers/evaluators.  These expert practioners bring a shared expertise in the fields of adjudicated youth, poverty and education, cultural alienation and education, English-langauge acquisition, education policy, and approaches to sustained program funding.  The outcome of the symposium will be an actionable and sustainable best practices model to be piloted in Maricopa County in cooperation with Arizona State University and other community partners.  This model program will serve as the basis for a nationwide project to stem the already dire Latino male dropout rate.
