Model Programs
The crisis of Latino dropouts is a symptom of widespread social failings, not just familial, educational, or policy breakdown. And a programmatic approach to change assures that the strengths of all involved in the education of Latinos will have an equal voice in shaping the solutions that address one of the most serious problems facing not only the Latino community, but the nation.
The model program will not be the exclusive creation of the Center; it will be the shared creation of the programs and individuals who participate in the symposium and focus groups. This collaborative approach assures community investment and success.
The Center will then build on established relationships with funders and policy makers to test this holistic approach to intervention, and ultimately to replicate it in a sustained and effective fashion.
The ultimate aim of the Center is to develop a holistic program—one that draws from the best practices of programs already successfully stemming the tide of Latino dropouts, a program that accounts for the expressed needs of students and their parents, and considers the needs of policy makers and foundations. The Center’s interest is to style a program that, rather than duplicate existing efforts, takes from what is working and has worked from multiple programs and combines these elements into a holistic service provider for at-risk Latino males.
