Best Practices

The aim of the best practices review is to assess programs and practices already in place nationwide.  Drawing on the research of such prestigious institutions as UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute, Columbia University’s Teachers College, USC’s Tomas Rivera Policy Institute and others, the Center will compile the strongest and most widely accepted approaches to fixing the educational pipeline.

However, as a best practices review, the Center will augment the academic research with direct input from educators and administrators in the secondary setting, as well as related community-based organizations.  Additionally, the Center will also solicit best practices from foundations and those involved in education policy.

Like the 1998 report, "No More Excuses: The Final Report of the Hispanic Dropout Project," the Center believes that, “all the players must work in concert to produce a move forward, to support change in other arenas, and to achieve a longer lasting and more extensive improvements in [Latino] dropout rates than can be achieved through solitary action.”

It is because of this holistic understanding of change that the Center is soliciting input from every quarter of the educational pipeline as we assess the challenges facing Latino males today.
